Taylor Family Trust Sponsors Educational Programme

Focusing on the development and education of Grenada’s younger population is only one of many objectives of the Taylor Family Trust for Grenada. In an effort to educate the youthful citizens of our nation, the Trust has funded development of the Sexual Abuse Awareness and Prevention Programme (SAAPP). The Psycho-educational programme, developed by the Legal Aid and Counselling Clinic (LACC), aim to I initiate awareness of risky behaviours such as engaging in violent and sexual activity as well as drug and alcohol abuse. Prevention of child sexual abuse is a significant contribution towards raising the standard of living for children who are at risk.

Board members of the Trust approved financing for the educational program in three phases; research and development, pilot presentation and the full program roll-out to pilot schools. The development and core curriculum of the program are complete, however, additional materials have been identified as necessary for success of the program. Creative professionals have been approached to produce books with artistic illustrations as support material in carrying out the message. In October 2009, successful pilot presentations of the core curriculum were made as part of ‘Month of the Child’ initiatives.

Dr. Hazel Da Breo, Project Developer, expressed a heartfelt thank you for the full support provided buy the Taylor Family trust. She commented “Child Sexual Abuse is high on the radar of all International Agencies with a Social Justice agenda. It is an enormous problem, worldwide. This program aims to teach preventative skills to every Grenadian child, via the school system, from Junior Kindergarten through to Form Five. The LACC is very grateful to the Taylor Family Trust fir their support of this important initiative.”
